The ten traits of the super successful

Ever wondered what the super successful do others don’t? Read on…

  1. They have a relentless drive. Once they set their minds on a goal, nothing stops them from reaching it. They will work longer, harder and more creatively than anybody else in their industry until they reach the summit. They are tenacious and do not let their fear get in the way. They realize the difference between talent and skills. Talent, you have naturally, skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft by training and working constantly. So give yourself a good checkout. Are you really working that hard on your goal or… not?
  2. They possess a supersized thinking. Somebody once said “The size of your life is determined by the size of the problems you solve”. Time is the great equalizer. We all have 24 hours, 7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year. Time multiplied by the size of your problems equals your results. If you think about it, you can either build an electric car in your garage like my friend did or you can build Tesla like Elon Musk did. Same objective, same problems to solve, only one person supersized their thinking… You can start a local coffee shop and worry about your supplies and employees or you can start Starbucks like Howard Schultz did. Again same way of going about it. Either think small or dream big. The time you spend on solving big problems will be the same you will spend on solving small problems. The results though, will be different. So dream big dreams, act boldly and have a no limitations belief in yourself.
  3. They find their massive leverage. Most people spend massive time on the trivial versus the vital. They dilute themselves into being busy instead of being productive. You need to find the 20% tasks that result in 80% results in your field. For this, the secret is to delegate. Find someone better than you at doing what is not essential and concentrate on the big picture.
  4. They maintain maniacal focus. They are champions at managing distractions and do not let anything that is not primordial get in the way. They know how to guard their attention and only use it on the most essential tasks. They delegate the less important ones to their team so they can concentrate on what no one else can do : Make their vision come to life. To control their lives, they have learnt to control what they pay attention to. They have mastered the art of saying No to the 100’s of distractions they receive everyday and say yes to only one project until completion.
  5. They possess ultimate resiliency — they “F” a lot. Yes you read it right… They fail a lot. They fail fast and they fail often. Look at Jeff Bezos. Everyone knows him as the head of the amazon empire worth approximately 186 billions dollars. No one remembers the many failures he encountered along the way to the top (have you ever heard of or recall crucible, heaven or amazon fire phone???). As long as you learn from your mistakes, they are only experiments and not failures. You can fail many times over. As long as you possess resiliency, you will eventually hit success.
  6. They have an obsessive and constant pursuit of better. The way to the top is hard and strenuous. Once you get there, you might have a tendency to cruise and rest on your laurels. Super successful people know that even though you are at the top of your game or fame, the only constant in life is change… That means that tomorrow, a young kid in his/her garage may start a business, outsmart you and take your place. So stay vigilant and continue to strive for better. As the late Steve jobs constantly asked his teams : “How can we do it better?”
  7. They possess steadfast consistency. Remember the story of the turtle and the hare? Yes I know, easy to remember that the hare so sure of his victory decided to take a little nap while the turtle steadfastly continued to cross the finish line victorious… There is nothing in life you cannot achieve. You can outsmart, outpace outgrow anybody in your field as long as you have consistency… Need I say more?
  8. They know the power of a power tribe. No one, and I mean no one, can make it alone. Remember Michael Phelps? Yes, you saw him seemingly alone becoming the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all times with a total of 28 medals. What you did not see is the preparation and the many coaches he hired as his team to make it to the top.
  9. They are consummate learners. This one alone could be the only attribute you possess that gives you the key to success. As the most famous investor Warren Buffet said : “The best investment you can make, is an investment in yourself… The more you learn, the more you’ll earn”. Whatever happens in the world, your knowledge, experience and know how will give you the best base to start over if you were to encounter challenges.
  10. They have unshakable resolve. Too many people have wishes, dreams and ideas and do nothing with them. Resolve is turning your want, could and should into HAVE TOS AND MUSTS. “I will do it or I will die trying”, there is no other way. You can either be motivated by love or by hate. Sometimes what makes your blood boil is what ignites the beast in you. Often the ones who go on to incredible success find their resolve from a less than noble motive like wanting to get back to the person who said they would never amount to anything. As Franck Sinatra said, “the best revenge is massive success”.

Well, I hope this quick recap of the 10 attributes successful people possess will help you achieve your dream and propel you to where you want to go. Remember “aim for the moon and if you fail, you will still land among the stars”…
